TURNBULL PUTS HIS FUTURE AHEAD OF THE NATION

In an act of desperate self-preservation, Malcolm Turnbull has put his own political future ahead of Australia’s, by threatening a double dissolution election on the pretext of failure to pass the Australian Building and Construction Commission (ABCC) legislation.

Last week, Senator Cash and her Liberal Government voted against debating the very ABCC legislation they now seek to rely upon to call a double dissolution election.

If the ABCC legislation was as important as the Government wants us to believe, they would not have voted against debating it. Instead, ludicrously, the Government gagged itself.

FACT: The ABCC Bill was last defeated in August 2015 - the Government could have brought it back for a vote at any time in last 7 months - without the expense of recalling the Parliament.

FACT: The other Bill the Prime Minister is pretending to rely upon, the Registered Organisations Bill, is not even in the Parliament - and hasn’t been since August 2015.

FACT: In the last 7 months, the Government has not sought to negotiate with the Opposition about amendments to either Bill.

Malcolm Turnbull claims a double dissolution is not a political tactic but his behaviour in relation to his industrial relations bills prove that it is.

If Malcolm Turnbull wants to fight an election putting the Liberals’ record against Labor’s standing up for workers, bring it on.

Labor will always fight for workers and the conditions they rely on; Mr Turnbull and his Liberals will fight for big business and cuts to penalty rates.
