PUT PERTH FREIGHT LINK OUT OF ITS MISERY

The WA Government has once again opted to push ahead with the highly flawed Perth Freight Link rather than getting on with fixing Perth’s long-term freight transport problem and addressing chronic passenger congestion.

We understand the Barnett Government has a legal right to appeal Chief Justice Wayne Martin’s decision the overturn the Roe 8 environmental approval, rather than attempting to fix the problems at the heart of the approval.

But every day spent fighting for this discredited project is another day WA goes without its fair share of Federal infrastructure dollars, at a time when economic activity is at a low and unemployment is rising.

The Perth Freight Link was only ever a political project cooked up in Ministerial offices to paper over a shortfall in infrastructure spending in WA.

If a Supreme Court ruling is not enough to stop the Barnett Government from continuing the Perth Freight Link, it is up to Malcolm Turnbull to redirect the $925 million of Federal funding allocated to the project to the infrastructure Perth needs - urban rail, and getting planning underway for an Outer Harbour.
