Guantanamo: Howard must act

The descriptions of abuse of prisoners, including Australians, claimed in a new report by British internees at Guantanamo Bay are of criminal behaviour by the guards and demand action from Prime Minister John Howard, Greens Senator Bob Brown said today.

"The parallels with torture at Abu Ghraib prison in Baghdad are clear - all the more so when it is remembered the same US General Miller implemented prisoner interrogation rules in both places," Senator

Brown said.

"Is Mr Howard going to continue to turn a blind eye to these allegations of criminal behaviour against Australians?

"So far Mr Howard has stood outside the prison with his eyes and ears shut and arms folded. He either takes action or becomes part of the problem," Senator Brown said.
