Anglicare receives funding help to prevent homelessness in Wollongong

Anglicare will receive $275,308 in funding assistance from the Commonwealth Government to help prevent homelessness in Wollongong, Federal Member for Cunningham, Sharon Bird, said today.

“The Commonwealth Government is providing this additional funding assistance to Anglicare until 30 June 2011.

“Families under financial pressure often turn to emergency relief organisations and other charities to help with immediate needs, such as food, clothing, pharmacy, rent, utility payments and transport.

“This funding will build on that first point of contact and help Anglicare support and connect these families to other services.

“In some cases, caseworkers will help with budgeting and avoid the immediate threat of eviction, pay bonds, connect utilities and help with re-location costs”, Ms Bird said.

The Commonwealth Government funding is part of an additional $3.5 million in additional emergency relief until 2011 to help families in New South Wales.
