Cobb Extends Best Wishes to HSC Students

Wednesday, October 13, 2010

Federal Member for Calare, John Cobb, today extended his best wishes to the year 12 students of Calare who are about to commence their final Higher School Certificate written exams.

A total of 71,310 students across the NSW will sit their final secondary exams and 3,198 of these will be from Western NSW.

“This is an important milestone in the lives of these students and one they have worked extremely hard towards over the past year,” Mr Cobb said.

“The skills learnt during their time at school will certainly prepare these students for life after school and entering the workforce.

“These days life after school isn’t just about university; it’s about giving the younger generation options which will allow them to pursue a career in whatever area they want.

“The opportunities available to students after school are endless; you might choose to continue studying at University or opt for more practical, hands on training at TAFE. Apprenticeships are also available which allow you to earn money while you learn.

“Regardless of where you live or your academic ability, there is a career path for everyone.

Mr Cobb said the Coalition is committed to ensuring that support is available to regional students who choose to move away from home to pursue higher education.

“There are a number of ways students can access financial support. Scholarships are available for a number of university courses as well as Youth Allowance, which can help alleviate financial stress.

“This really is an exciting time for these students. I wish the Class of 2010 the best of luck in their final exams and wish them well in their future endeavors.”

Mr Cobb urged any students seeking career advice to log onto the Federal Government’s JobSearch website www.jobsearch.gov.au and click on career information.
