National Remembrance Day a time to honour the sacrifice and service of our police officers

TASMANIANS have been urged to reflect today on the sacrifice and service of our police officers and their families.

“National Police Remembrance Day is a time to pay tribute to those who have died in the line of duty, in our name, as sworn police officers,” Tasmanian Liberal Senator Stephen Parry said today.

“Every day police officers in Tasmania and around the country go to work not knowing what dangers they may be asked to confront in their work to keep our community safe.

“Too often their sacrifice and service is overlooked, as is the toll that the job can and does take on their families.

“Today, I urge Tasmanians to reflect not only on those police officers who have died in the line of duty, but also on the hundreds of officers who confront the same dangers while serving our community.”

Senator Parry is a member of two parliamentary joint committees relating to law enforcement and is also a former police officer.
