A con, a sham and guess who’s paying?

TASMANIANS will pay the price in more ways than one from Labor’s attempt to slug the mining industry, Liberal Senator Stephen Parry, speaking on behalf of the Tasmanian Liberal Senate Team, said today.

“Taxpayers have now discovered they will fork out almost $40 million to pay for Prime Minister Kevin Rudd’s pro-mining tax propaganda - a shameless attempt to con voters,” Senator Parry said.

“Consultation has been proven to be a sham, meanwhile, with reports that a forum to be held in Burnie this week has been convened at too little notice and will not be attended by the full consultation panel.

“The question for Tasmanian Labor MPs is why the need to spend taxpayers’ money when, as Sid Sidebottom claims, the mining tax will supposedly be good for the industry?

“And why isn’t the Government making more of an effort to consult with the industry that will be so adversely affected?

“Tasmanians will pay for Mr Rudd to sell Labor’s new mining tax and they will pay again when it causes investment to dry up and jobs to be lost.”
