THE HON JOEL FITZGIBBON MP MEMBER FOR HUNTER CHIEF GOVERNMENT WHIP ___________________________________________________________

22 October 2010

The Hunter electorate is set to receive a $324,445 investment, following the historic health and hospital reform agreement between the State and Commonwealth Governments.

This investment is part of the health reform agreement, signed earlier this year, providing an additional $1.2 billion for NSW health services over the next four years.

Federal Member for Hunter, Joel Fitzgibbon welcomed the increased investment in health services for Hunter saying it will help enhance and strengthen the capabilities of local hospitals.

Denman Hospital will receive $61,500 for cardiac monitoring and defibrillator, Merriwa Hospital will receive $36,500 for cardiac monitoring, Murrurundi Hospital will receive $27,500 for a defibrillator, Muswellbrook Hospital will receive $92,570 for bariatric patient equipment, Singleton Hospital will receive $74,000 for cardiac monitors and defibrillator and Scone Hospital will receive $32,375 for cardiac monitoring.

“This investment is vital for our hospitals and recognises the health needs of the local community.”

“This new funding will go a long way to enhancing health services and highlights the commitment made by the Gillard Government to deliver new services to rural and regional NSW,” he said.

These announcements are part of a significant investment in NSW hospitals - in both metropolitan and regional hospitals - that is a direct result of the COAG health reform agreement.
