The Australian Government and the Victorian Government today tabled an independent report on the implementation of the five Victorian Regional Forest Agreements.

The report outlines the findings of the five and ten year reviews on progress of the implementation of all five Victorian Regional Forest Agreements.

The report was conducted by Leanne Wallace, a former Deputy Director-General of the Public Sector Workforce Office in the NSW Department of Premier and Cabinet.

The independent report makes 28 recommendations. A formal joint response by the governments will now be prepared.

The five Victorian Regional Forest Agreements were signed between 1997 and 2000. The Victorian Regional Forest Agreements are 20 year agreements that provide for the conservation of forest areas, for ecologically sustainable forest management, and certainty for forest and wood processing industries as well as the communities that depend on forest based activities.

The report is available on the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry and the Victorian Department of Sustainability and Environment websites.
