Mildura to benefit from new one-stop-shop

29 July 2013

Several essential government services will be available in one handy location for the first time in Mildura from Monday 12 August 2013.

Minister for Human Services, Senator Jan McLucas today announced a brand new, purpose-built site at 112-124 Deakin Avenue will house Centrelink, Medicare, Child Support and CRS Australia services under the one roof.

All staff and services from the centre delivering Centrelink and Child Support services at 158-164 Langtree Avenue and the centre delivering CRS Australia services at 154 Langtree Avenue will move into the new one-stop-shop. Staff delivering Medicare services will also move from 129 Eighth Street into the new building.

"The one-stop-shop will offer residents a wider range of the Department's services in one place," Senator McLucas said.

"People lead busy lives and need to be able to access government services in a way that suits them. With more self-service terminals, an open-plan layout and modern facilities the new site will provide a pleasant environment for residents and staff.

"There is also plenty of nearby on-street and off-street parking, with easy access for people with a disability."

Senator McLucas reminded residents to take advantage of Medicare's new electronic claiming options to get their rebate without having to visit an office.

"Claiming at the doctor is the most convenient option for people, once they have registered their bank account details," Senator McLucas said.

"Many doctors around the country offer electronic claiming where a patient's claim is processed at the time of their visit and paid into their nominated bank account. Mildura locals should ask their doctor if they offer this service.

"Residents can also claim some rebates electronically or over the phone by registering their bank account details with Medicare Online Services (humanservices.gov.au/online[6]) to receive their benefit by EFT transfer the next business day.

"There are already more than 100 sites where face to face Medicare and Centrelink services can be accessed in one place and there will be more to come."

The new Mildura Service Centre is located at 112-124 Deakin Avenue, open Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 4.30pm.
