JOINT PRESS RELEASE

THE HON. TONY ABBOTT MHR, LEADER OF THE OPPOSITION THE HON. BRUCE SCOTT MHR, FEDERAL MEMBER FOR MARANOA

THE COALITION’S COMMITMENT TO UPGRADE THE AUSTRALIAN STOCKMAN’S HALL OF FAME

A Coalition government will provide $5 million for an upgrade of the Australian Stockman’s Hall of Fame in Longreach.

Our commitment will provide $3 million to support needed capital works as well as the construction of a new gallery and $2 million to deliver stage one of a new multi-purpose Outback Entertainment Centre.

This year marks the 25th anniversary of the opening of the Stockman’s Hall of Fame and our investment will renew this significant Australian cultural institution.

We want the next 25 years of the Stockman’s Hall of Fame to be even more successful than the first 25 years and for it to be a magnet for events and jobs in Longreach.

We want the Stockman’s Hall of Fame to remain an iconic regional tourism drawcard for many years to come.

The Stockman’s Hall of Fame is the custodian of a wonderful part of our nation’s story and our commitment will fund a new gallery that will showcase the contribution of Indigenous men and women to the pastoral development of our country.

This new gallery will be a long overdue acknowledgement of the contribution Indigenous Australians have made to the economic development of regional Australia.

The $2 million commitment to support stage one of a new Outback Entertainment Centre will kick-start the development of a multi-purpose facility on the grounds of the Stockman’s Hall of Fame.

The Outback Entertainment Centre will be a multi-purpose entertainment and educational facility to cater for equine sports, regional, state and national events as well as trade fairs and concerts.

The Outback Entertainment Centre will also support the Australian Agricultural College Longreach Campus which is located adjacent to the site.

The Coalition’s commitment to upgrade the Australian Stockman’s Hall of Fame and support stage one of the Outback Entertainment Centre is part of our Real Solutions Plan to build a strong, prosperous economy.
