More Labor lies on red tape

SENATOR ARTHUR SINODINOS AO Shadow Parliamentary Secretary to the Leader of the Opposition Senator for New South Wales

24 July 2013

The claim today by three Labor Minister’s that the Rudd Government delivered real reforms to cut red tape is a joke.

“Claiming the removal of 3000 pieces of already redundant regulations with no current economic or productivity impact, is not delivering any benefit to business whatsoever,” said Senator Sinodinos.

Real change in reducing red and green tape does not happen by merely undertaking legislative house-keeping.

“The reality is that Labor remains addicted to legislating. Since 2007 Labor has introduced 21,000 new pieces of regulation.”

The Coalition welcomes the call today by the Australian Institute of Company Directors for:

“the next Government, whoever wins the coming Federal poll, to get serious about regulatory reform.”

The Coalition has widely consulted with business and the community for over 18 months and understands the urgent need for reform.

That is why we have already released a comprehensive plan to boost productivity and reduce red and green tape by $1 billion per annum in consultation with the community.

“Tony Abbott has the plan and the will to remove the regulation that is strangling the Australian economy.”

“Unlike Labor we want to deliver a modern economy free from excessive regulation that encourages and fosters innovation, investment and job creation” said Senator Sinodinos.

The Rudd Government is still the same old Labor, over promising and severely under delivering.
