Federal Shadow Tourism Minister Joel Fitzgibbon today welcomed the Japanese Government's decision to grant Australians visa-free travel to Japan.

"The Japanese Government's decision demonstrates the stupidity of the Howard Government's $60 visitor visa application fee for countries without the ETA passenger processing system and highlights how out of step the Government is In International tourism developments,

"The Howard Government seems determined to crucify Australia's largest Job generating industry given Peter Costello's enthusiasm for a GST on visitors to Australia, its decision to cut Australian Tourist Commission funding and its visitor visa application fee", Mr Fitzgibbon said,

Mr Fitzgibbon called on new Tourism Minister Jackie Kelly to recognise that the $50 fee Is bad policy and to abolish it.
