AUSTRALIAN SENATE

SELECT COMMITTEE ON SUPERANNUATION

MEDIA RELEASE

SUPERANNUATION COMMITTEE REPORT PUT TO GOOD USE IN EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS

Senator John Watson, Chair of the Senate Select Committee on Superannuation, today welcomed the news that some tertiary and other educational institutions are making use of the Committee’s report on Superannuation and Standards of Living in Retirement - report on the adequacy of the tax arrangements for superannuation and related policy. Some students studying Taxation Law at the University of Melbourne are using the report, as are students undertaking the Graduate Diploma in Applied Finance and Investment offered by the Securities Institute of Australia.

Senator Watson said: ‘It just goes to show how important committee reports can be when educational institutions such as the University of Melbourne and the Securities Institute of Australia use them in course work with students. This reflects the high quality of the reports and confirms my belief that committee reports can play an important part in not only raising public awareness of issues, but also contributing to informed debate’.
