AIR NEW ZEALAND will commence weekly flights between Sydney and Bangkok each Wednesday, from 8 November, 1995.

The flights, to be operated by a Boeing 767-300 aircraft, represent a further step in AIR NEW ZEALAND’S strategy to build its presence on routes between Australia and Asia.

AIR NEW ZEALAND'S Regional General Manager Australia Mr Garry Court, said the Bangkok services were the first flights by AIR NEW ZEALAND between Sydney and an Asian destination following the carrier's successful development of Brisbane as a major regional hub for flights to Osaka, Seoul, Taipei. Bangkok arid New Zealand.

Mr Court said the new flights would help to meet growing demand for airline seats to Australia during the peak travel period from Thailand and Europe, and represented a new opportunity for inbound tourism growth to Australia from the booming South East Asia region - particularly as Sydney prepared for the year 2000 Olympic Games.

Figures released by the Australian Tourist Commission show that Thailand is one of the fastest growing sources of inbound tourism, with visitor numbers increasing by 32 per cent to 44,740 in the year to June, 1995

Mr Court said the new flights also would be timed to give Australian travellers same- day connections to Thai Holiday resorts, an advantage which no other airline could offer Sydney-Bangkok passengers.

AIR NEW ZEALAND’S new flights will arrive and depart Sydney each Wednesday morning at 10.45am, arriving in Bangkok at 4.35pm. Return services will depart Bangkok at 6.30pm each Wednesday, arriving at 7.45am on Thursday morning.

The Boeing 767 operated the service will be configured to seat 245 passengers in a two-class cabin of 24 Business Class and 221 Economy Class.

AIR NEW ZEALAND’S new Sydney-Bangkok flights follow the carrier’s entry to the Sydney-Los Angeles non-stop market in November last year. Those services initially operated 3 times weekly increased in July, to 5 Sydney-Los Angeles non-stop services weekly.
