No sale of Defence Housing Authority

Following a review of Commonwealth-owned commercial entities, we are pleased to announce that the Defence Housing Authority (DHA) is to remain in Government ownership and will be re-structured on a more commercial basis.

A steering committee from the Department of Defence and the Department of Finance and Administration has undertaken a comprehensive review of the role of DHA in the provision of housing, construction and maintenance services for defence force personnel and their families.

DHA is charged with the responsibility of providing a good standard of accommodation for defence force personnel and will continue to do so following its restructure as a Government Business Enterprise.

The well being of defence families is a high priority of the Howard Government and today's decision reflects the intention of the Government to continue to provide for their needs in the future.
