“This survey shows that Australians completely reject One Nation’s view that aM *^ should be cut”, said Ms. Hunt “Indeed, over a third of Australians belieVe we should be more generous.”

By international standards, Australia is still a relatively small aid donor, providing OnlvV^mL 0.27% of GNP (1% of the national budget) on aid.

“We do not exist on this planet by ourselves”, said Ms. Hunt. “And strategically placed aid, such as our targeted anti-poverty programs, provides one sure way to help c o u n tr ie s ^ ^ | help themselves.’ ■ ' - 0

Over half of those surveyed supported long-term development aid such as increased access to education, health care - especially prevention of the high number of child deaths : - reliable family planning and environmental regeneration. %
