Mk N E W S RELEASEAttorney- GeneralTHE HON DARYL WILLIAMS AM QC MP17 December 1998 507COMMUNITY LEGAL SERVICES BOOSTED IN REGIONAL VICI am pleased to announce that 120,000 people in and around Albury/Wodonga on the Victoria and New South Wales border region will soon benefit from a new community legal service. The service forms part of the Coalition Government’s $11.4 million initiative for extending access to legal services for Australians outside metropolitan areas, and improving the operation of the community legal services network. The service will initially operate under the auspices of the Upper Murray Family Care Inc in Wodonga, Victoria. In the longer term, the service will consider operating out of two locations, one in Albury, New South Wales, and one in Wodonga.Community legal services deliver a range of legal services to disadvantaged people, including casework, legal advice and representation, and legal education activities. It is pleasing that these much needed services are being made accessible to people living in regional areas.I wish the new service providers well in their efforts to provide high quality legal services to those who most need it in their local communities.Media contact: Nicholas Harford (02) 6277 7300
