CONSERVATIVES SAY A YES VOTE IS A SAFE VOTE

When Australians go to vote tomorrow they face one central question: can we safely replace the Queen v/ith an Australian as head of state7 The answer is YES.

Convener of Conservatives for an Australian Head of State, Andrew Robb, said, “The model for a republic is safe, and close to what we have now.

“It means an Australian head of state replaces the Queen, but the fundamentals will not change - we will keep our two Houses of Parliament, our Prime Minister, our laws and court system, our constitution, our flag and our membership o f the Commonwealth

“But, the change will mean that we enter the 21sl century with every Australian boy or girl able to aspire to be Australia’s head of state.

“The members of Conservatives for an Australian Head of State urge all Australians to seize the opportunity while we have a model for an Australian head of state which involves no hidden agenda, no wider change.

“We are truly a lucky country. Most republics have their origins in a major dispute or war. We only have to write YES on the ballot paper.

“We have the opportunity to show who we are, not who we were.

“It’s a chanc e which won’t return in the lifetime of many of us.

“Let’s do it - and move on.
