Your Chance to Enter the First National Youth Media Awards

As an influential member of the Australian media, you understand the importance of accurate and balanced news and current affairs coverage.

That’s why I’m writing to invite you to support and to enter an exciting new Commonwealth Government initiative — The National Youth Media Awards — which are being held for the first time in 1999.

The Awards will recognise the best examples of journalism which reflect the positive contribution young people make every day to our society.

Open to print journalists, TV and radio presenters and producers and photographers, the National Youth Media Awards will recognise superior examples of journalism from media professionals who have seen value in reporting positive stories and story angles when reporting on youth issues.

A panel of journalists, media industry representatives and young people will judge the Awards in April 1999. The presentation ceremony will be held on 19 May 1999 in the Great Hall at Parliament House, Canberra.

Attached is an entry form containing detailed information on the Awards categories. Further information is available at www.tbesource.gov.au or by contacting my office on 02 627 7 7460.

Our young Australians deserve to be fairly represented. This is your chance to receive recognition for work which supports the endeavours of young Australians.

I look forward to your involvement in these awards. The closing date for your nomination is 5 April 1999.

Yours sincerely

DAVID KEMP Minister for Education, Training and Youth Affairs
