Commonwealth Government buys NSW records management Product 3 4 The National Archives of Aiistralia on behalf of the Commonwealth Government has bought a whole of government licence to use a records management product developed by the State Records Authority.

The National Archives of Australia, with financial assistance from the Office of Government Online, will make the records management thesaurus Keyword AAA available to all Commonwealth Government agencies.

The agreement is significant because it also formalises the role which Keyword AAA will play as part of the Australian Government Locator Service (AGLS), recently endorsed by the Online Council of Australia. The Keyword AAA product, developed for use in NSW Government, has been identified as an important component to identifying and retrieving information in the web environment.

The Director of State Records, David Roberts, said

'This agreement is another step in the collaborative arrangements between the states and the commonwealth recordkeeping institutions.'

'The purchase of Keyword AAA is a significant investment by the Commonwealth. It will assist Commonwealth agencies in managing their records into the next century.'

'It is also pleasing to see the Keyword AAA thesaurus well on its way to being the defacto Australian national standard in records management thesauri.'

Keyword AAA has been adopted for use by the governments of Western Australia, South Australia, Tasmania, the Northern Territory, and now the Commonwealth Government. It is also in use amongst a large proportion of NSW Government agencies.
