MEDIA RELEASE THE HON JOEL FITZGIBBON MP MEMBER FOR HUNTER CHIEF GOVERNMENT WHIP ___________________________________________________________

28 August 2012

New facilities at St James Primary School in Muswellbrook will bring benefits to students for years to come, Member for Hunter said today.

Mr Fitzgibbon officially opened the school’s $2,653,123 new multipurpose hall and library refurbishment and said the Australian Government’s historic Building the Education Revolution (BER) investment was delivering modern facilities to school students around Australia.

“The BER is a $16.2 billion investment in the nation’s future and is delivering modern facilities to more than 9500 schools in metro and regional communities across the country,” he said.

“It is the single biggest investment in Australian schools in our history.

“Projects like the new multipurpose hall and library refurbishment at St James Primary School are making a real difference by improving the learning environment for our children.

“This is an historic investment in the modernisation of our schools and we will continue to see the benefits of this program for many years to come.”

Mr Fitzgibbon said the Government’s investment had resulted in libraries, science labs, classrooms and multipurpose halls being built across the country.

“These facilities are an investment in our future and will deliver better education outcomes for students in your community and throughout Australia,” he said.

“They are changing the way our students learn and giving teachers and staff a more enjoyable place to work.

“The bricks and mortar of these buildings are merely the foundations on which long term educational benefits will be built and continue to flow to Australian students for years to come.”

Mr Fitzgibbon congratulated St James Primary School and the local community for their efforts in delivering this historic investment to their school.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for the whole Muswellbrook community to come together and celebrate the new facilities.
