Nick Champion urges locals to ‘Do a Money Health Check’

Federal Member for Wakefield, Nick Champion today urged locals in Wakefield to „Do a Money Health Check‟ in this year‟s inaugural MoneySmart Week.

“In our busy everyday lives it is easy to let our debts and expenses build up,” Nick Champion said.

“Stopping to do a Money Health Check gives residents in Wakefield the chance to evaluate their personal financial situation.”

“The perfect time to do this is during MoneySmart Week.”

The first annual MoneySmart Week will be held from Sunday 2 - Saturday 8 September 2012.

Nick Champion said that residents can do a Money Heath Check by visiting http://www.moneysmartweek.org.au .

“Organisations in Wakefield and around Australia are holding events to mark MoneySmart Week. A list of events can be found by visiting http://www.moneysmartweek.org.au/get-involved/find-an-event or by calling my office.”

MoneySmart Week is an initiative of members of the Australian Government Financial Literacy Board and supports a key initiative of the Gillard Labor Government‟s National Financial Literacy Strategy.

The National Financial Literacy Strategy aims to enhance the financial wellbeing of all Australians by improving financial literacy levels. The strategy involves:

 Education through schools and other pathways  Providing trusted and independent information, tools and ongoing support  Recognising the limits of education and information and developing additional innovative solutions to drive improved financial wellbeing and behavioural

change  Working in partnership with the many sectors involved with financial literacy, measuring our impact and promoting best practice

Financial Literacy promotes financial inclusion and gives people the tools to take control of their finances and deal with cost of living pressures.
