Media release Senator Kate Lundy Minister for Sport, Minister for Multicultural Affairs, Minister Assisting for Industry and Innovation 21 August, 2012 Minister congratulates David Gallop on his new appointment The Minister for Sport, Senator Kate Lundy, today congratulated David Gallop on his appointment as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Football Federation Australia (FFA) and paid tribute to outgoing CEO Ben Buckley. “Ben worked tirelessly to progress the interests of football in Australia and abroad,” Senator Lundy said. “He was a central figure in football in this country for over six years and can be credited with modernising the A-League. “Under Ben’s leadership, domestic and international football has grown in Australia and he has made an important contribution to Australia’s sporting landscape.” Senator Lundy said David Gallop’s experience as CEO of the National Rugby League would equip him well in his new role with the FFA. “The future of football in Australia will be in safe hands under the experienced leadership of David Gallop,” Senator Lundy said. “David is widely acknowledged as a superb sport administrator and the skills he developed as CEO of rugby league will stand him in good stead in this new role. “I have had the pleasure of working closely with David in his capacity as Acting Chair of the Australian Sports Commission and he has undeniable passion for sport. “I join with football fans across the country in wishing him the best of luck in overseeing the growth of soccer in Australia.” Media contact: Jessica Hill on 0407 926 077
