The 30 finalists in the 1993 Australian Export Awards have given the Australian economy a remarkable $1,567 million boost, the Minister for Trade, Senator Peter Cook, said today.

Announcing the finalists for the Awards, Senator Cook said all had demonstrated single minded determination to succeed in overseas markets.

"The real bottom line is that just 30 companies, both large and small in city and country areas earned $1,567 million in export income in 1992/93 which in turn created jobs and opportunity for other Australian industries.

"All of them have carved out a market niche through good market research, innovative products and services and sheer persistence," he said.

Senator Cook said the exporters had found markets for a diversity of products from bulldozers to diamonds.

"The primary products, for example, range from meat and dairy products to shark fins being sold to restaurants in Hong Kong to crude oil shipped to Indonesia.

"High tech airport management systems, airborne laser geological survey tools, crocodile skins, underground mining machinery and off-shore patrol boats - they are all plain evidence that Australian companies can not only make a mark in world markets, but successfully take on the toughest competition," he said.

The 1993 Australian Export Awards are co-organised by Austrade and the Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCT). The winners of the five Awards and the DHL Australian Exporter of the Year will be announced in Canberra on Tuesday 30 November.

The finalists, who are all winners of their respective State export awards are:
