I 1 F DIATE RELEASE

The names of Australian and British warships which will

take part in the maritime exercise Swan Lake off Western

Australia in November were announced today by the Minister

for. the Navy, Mr. D.J. Killen.

The exercise will begin from Sydney with the deployment

phase on October 2 6 and end in Fremantle on November 15.

They are the aircraft carrier HM AS MELBOURNE, the guided missile destroyer rni&s BRISBANE, the frigates 1S

CHARYBDIS 9 UMS MINE VA 9 EMS LYNX and HMS ASHANTI, the submarines HI.rli1S 0 s'Z Y, HEAS OTVJAY and flYaS FIN`{ ALIJ, the . mine countermeasures vessels IThiAS HraWK, HAS IBIS and E AS CURLEW, and the patrol

boat HHAS ACUTE.

They will be supported by the oiler ?ETAS SUPPLY, the

submarine support ship THIS FORTH, the destroyer. tender I S STALWART and the Royal fleet auxiliaries 01,11-I^ DA, RESOURCE and

TYPHOON.

Orion anti-submarine aircraft of the PLAF and ..N.Z.A.F.

will also take part. HT.IAS TIELDOURIv' will have embarked Skyhawk

fighter bombers, Tracker anti--submarine aircraft and Messex

helicopters. Several of the British ships will also carry

helicopters.

The exercise will be directed by the Flag Officer

Commanding the Australian Fleet (Rear Admiral H.D. Stevenson),

The Flag Officer, Second in Command, British Far

East Fleet (Rear Admiral D. Williams) will be embarked in

ObEADA during the exercise.

Visits will be made to Western Australian ports before

and after the exercise.
