DRIED VINE FRUITS STABILISATION SCHEME

The Australian Agricultural Council today expressed its concern for the urgent renewal of stabilisation arrangements for the dried vine fruits industry.

The Council said it hoped agreement would be quickly reached between the industry and the Commonwealth Government on

proposals for a new scheme.

The chairman of the Council, Mr. Anthony, presented to the meeting today a summary of the main features of the industry's

proposals, made to the Government last month.

The first five-year scheme expired with the disposal of the 1968 crop, In March this year, after 12 months' negotiations,

a new scheme did not receive sufficient support from growers at a referendum to bring it into effect.

Ministers at today's meeting said the state of the industry made the implementation of a new scheme urgent and

imperative
