Penrith Jobs and Skills Expo connects 4200 to jobs and training

More than 4200 people were connected with employment and skills training opportunities at today’s Australian Government Jobs and Skills Expo in Penrith.

Minister for Employment Participation Kate Ellis said today’s Penrith Jobs and Skills Expo was a great success.

“While a recent drop in the national unemployment rate is good news, we know that there’s more work to be done in Outer Western Sydney and the Blue Mountains region,” Ms Ellis said.

“Since being introduced in October 2009, 46 Jobs and Skills Expos have been held across the country.

“The people who attended today’s expo took full advantage of more than 775 job opportunities, submitting 1545 resumes to the 120 exhibitors.

Federal Member for Lindsay, David Bradbury, commended local job seekers, businesses and skills training providers who worked to make the event such a success.

“Today’s Jobs and Skills Expo was a great boost for job seekers in our local community,” Mr Bradbury said.

“It is never too late to up-skill, re-skill or engage in the workforce. Today’s expo helped a number of local residents take the first step in achieving these goals.

“Every Australian should have the opportunity to reach their full potential and contribute to the success of our nation.

“I am delighted that so many local residents took advantage of this unique opportunity and I thank all the local businesses and skills training providers who helped make it possible.”

The Expos are part of the federal Government’s $3 billion ‘Building Australia’s Future Workforce’ package.
