AFP to recruit 250 new police officers ‘Anything but every day’ Campaign

2 April 2012

The Australian Federal Police (AFP) today launched the “Anything but every day” recruitment campaign to draft 250 new police officers over the next two years.

“We’re looking for extraordinary people to help us fight crime - 200 new officers to join ACT Policing and about 50 federal agents for positions in Sydney or Melbourne,” Mr Clare said.

“Successful applicants will have the opportunity to be a police officer in the ACT or a federal agent conducting national and multi-jurisdictional investigations based in Australia or overseas.

“We’re looking for people who enjoy a challenge, want to contribute to the community and have excellent people skills, empathy and integrity.

Simon Corbell, ACT Minister for Police and Emergency Services, said the 200 police officers for Canberra will make a big difference in fighting local crime.

“Canberra is a growing city, and the new 200 police officers on the street will make a big difference for the ACT community”, Mr Corbell said.

“Policing is an incredibly rewarding career and I encourage anyone who has ever considered serving the community in this way to get online and apply”.

The AFP is seeking to further develop the diversity of its workforce, and is encouraging women, Indigenous Australians and people of culturally diverse backgrounds to apply.

Applicants must be an Australian citizen, hold an unrestricted driver’s license, a Year 12 certificate (or equivalent) and be over the age of 18. Applications open today (2 April) and close 11 May 2012.
