Hundreds of jobs on offer in Dandenong

People of all ages looking to find work and improve their skills are encouraged to come along to Dandenong’s Jobs and Skills Expo.

Federal Member for Bruce Alan Griffin said the expo had a proven track record for local people, creating almost 17,000 jobs nation-wide since 2009.

“Job seekers and those looking to undertake some training will find hundreds of local job and skills training opportunities at the expo,” Mr Griffin said.

“In April 2010, a previous Australian Government Jobs and Skills Expo in Dandenong connected more than 10,000 people with hundreds of job and skills training opportunities. That’s why I’m bringing the expo back to Dandenong.”

Minister for Human Services Senator Kim Carr said the Expo, to be held on Thursday April 12, is about providing practical help to people.

“This is a great opportunity for local jobseekers to meet employers and training providers in one spot, on one day,” Senator Carr said.

“This event creates a jobs marketplace. Exhibiting is free for employers, so even if you can’t be there your job vacancy or skills training opportunity can be displayed,” he said.

Minister for Employment Participation Kate Ellis encouraged job seekers, employers and training and education organisations to get involved in the expo.

“It is never too late to up-skill, re-skill or engage in the workforce and these expos - as part of Building Australia’s Future Workforce - will help people in Greater Dandenong to take the first step.

“All Australians should have the opportunity to share in the nation’s success, and the skills shortages affecting many industries means there’s never been a better time to undertake some training to secure a job.”

The Dandenong Jobs and Skills Expo will be held at the Dandenong Markets from 10am - 3pm on Thursday, 12 April.

Those interested in exhibiting should call 13 1158 or visit the website at www.humanservices.gov.au/expos.
