Employers welcomed aboard as Defence supporters

The Parliamentary Secretary for Defence, Senator David Feeney and Senator for Queensland, Senator Mark Furner, congratulated a group of South-east Queensland employers recognised last night (30 March 2012) for their outstanding support of the Australian Defence Force (ADF) and its Reservists.

The Employer Support Awards were hosted by the Defence Reserves Support Committee - South Queensland and recognised 51 employers who have been particularly supportive of their part time ADF personnel. The Awards were held aboard the Royal Australian Navy’s latest acquisition HMAS Choules.

“The ADF mission cannot be successfully carried out without the support of the Australian community. A large measure of support for the ADF - and in particular its part time personnel - comes from Australian Employers,” Senator Feeney said.

“Employers who implement polices and practices which support an employee to work part time for the ADF, make a positive contribution to the Australian community and Australia’s defence effort. The Defence Employer Support Awards acknowledge the outstanding contribution made by individual employers in supporting Defence and its personnel,” said the Senator.

Budget Chauffeur Drive from Bray Park was one of the winners recognised at the event. The Director, Dale Proetti said he was honoured that their employee, Reservist Aircraftwoman Makayla Ryan, nominated his company for an award.

“I was delighted to hear that Budget Chauffeur Drive had been considered and surprised to win the Small Business category,” Mr Proetti said.

“Budget Chauffeur Drive is a preferred service provider for several embassies, consulates and government departments. The very nature of this work requires well-versed and meticulous personnel. Reservists are self-motivated, reliable and disciplined and can work unsupervised.

“Makayla possesses those qualities which, in part, have stemmed from her RAAF training. Budget Chauffeur Drive will continue to support Reservists pursuing their careers. We will continue our support of Makayla, said Mr Proetti.”

Strathpine-based Senator for Queensland Mark Furner congratulated Budget Chauffeur Drive on its achievement.

“It is great to see a local business acknowledged for supporting one of its employees,” Senator Furner said.

“Without the support of their employers, Reservists would not be able to meet their commitments and make ongoing positive contributions to our community.

“I wish Budget Chauffuer Drive all the best in their endeavours and I am pleased that they will continue to support Makayla.”
