CHAIRMANSHIP OF TE AUSTRALIAN APPLE AND PEARBOARD

The F:sinister for Primary Industry, :Ir. .Anthony, announced today the appointment of Mr. W.H. Wilcock, O.B.E.,

as Commonwealth Government representative and therefore chairman of the Australian Apple and Pear Board for a period of three years, commencing 1st July, 1970.

The present chairman, I.1r. C.L. Oritchley, O.B.E., is due to retire from this position at the expiration of his term of office on 30th June, 1970.

I,Ir. Wilcock has recently retired from the Reserve Bank of Australia after a distinguished career in the bank-ing field including a period as Governor of the Central Bank of Malaya. In 1961 1 11r. Wilcock was made Honorary Dato of the Federation of .Ialaya and was awarded a C.B.E. in the 1970 New Year Honours.

Mr. Anthony said that he wanted to pay a tribute to the invaluable work done by Mr. Critchley for the apple and pear industry during his twelve and a half years as Commonwealth Government representative and chairman of the Australian Apple and Pear Board,

,I r. Anthony said that during this period the Board had encountered many difficult problems in connection with the export of apples and pears, not only to the United Kingdom but to many other countries. He said t1at Mr Critchley ts leadership had been greatly appreciated bj, the industry.
