PRIMARY

DEVALUATION COMPENSATION FOR CANTED

SOLID PACK APPLES

The Minister for Primary Industry, Mr. Anthony,

announced today that the Government would pay devaluation

compensation on canned solid pack apples exported and sold

between 1st Ja.ivary, 1969 and 31st December, 1969 at the rate

of 56 cents per carton of dozen A10 size cans.

Mr. Anthony said that this rate had been calculated

following an examination of exporterst records relating to

trading in 1969 and a comparison of these results with those

prior to devaluation.

Mr. Anthony added that this decision gives effect to

the undertaking by the Government in December, 1968 to compensate

industries which were still suffering demonstrable and unavoidable

losses which were properly attributable to devaluation.

Mr. Anthony said in conclusion that 1969 devaluation

compensation payments would be made by the Department of Primary

Industry under arrangements approved by him.
