TONY WINDSOR B.Ec MP INDEPENDENT FEDERAL MEMBER FOR NEW ENGLAND

PARLIAMENT OF AUSTRALIA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

MEDIA RELEASE 7 October 2011 $322,000 for New England Volunteers $322,000 has been allocated to 101 organisations in the New England Electorate under the 2011 Volunteer Grants Program. The Independent Member for New England, Tony Windsor has been advised of the successful groups by the Minister for Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs, The Hon Jenny Macklin and her Parliamentary Secretary for Community Services, The Hon Julie Collins. Mr Windsor has welcomed the funding that will assist groups who provide great service to their community through their members’ voluntary efforts. “Volunteers are the backbone of our communities both large and small. “Without volunteers, many services that communities depend on would not be available. “They contribute greatly to the quality of life that people enjoy now. “These volunteer grants are a small way of assisting organisations with the purchase of small equipment items, attend training courses and defray other costs that are incurred in the delivery of their service. “The grants are also a way of recognising the efforts of many people and to say thank you to them as I also do to the Government for making the funds available. “The money is well spent and I congratulate all the recipients on their success in this round of funding as well as thanking all volunteers for their commitment to their communities,” Mr Windsor said.
