Communications get better for Gilmore

"People living in Gilmore will now get faster access to ISDN and 1-way satellite services as Telstra continues to meet its requirements, spelt out in the Regional Telecommunications Inquiry (RTI)," said Local Member Joanna Gash.

"The Australian Government has accepted all 39 recommendations from the RTI and committed $181 million towards the response in order to lock in service improvements," said Mrs Gash.

Reduced wait times for connection to ISDN and 1-way satellite services directly benefits Australians where such services are important for gaining access to the internet. Waiting periods are expected to fall from between five and 20 working days depending on location.

Development of an Industry Code of Practice by the Australian Communications Authority also brings positive changes. Priority services for people with life threatening conditions as well as greater potential to keep your telephone numbers when switching between service providers are examples of recent updates.
