NORFOLK ISLAND AMENDMENT BILL 1999
Supplementary Explanatory Memorandum
Amendments to be Moved on Behalf of the Government
OUTLINE
This amendment to the Norfolk Island Amendment Bill 1999 removes the provisions in that Bill allowing for Commonwealth oversight of firearms legislation on Norfolk Island.
At the time of the Bill’s introduction, Norfolk Island firearms legislation did not comply with the National Firearms Agreement. The Norfolk Island Legislative Assembly has since put in place legislation which complies with the National Firearms Agreement, as such the provisions in the Bill for Commonwealth oversight of Norfolk Island firearms legislation are no longer required.
FINANCIAL IMPACT STATEMENT
This amendment has no budgetary impact.
NOTES ON AMENDMENTS
Amendment number 1 removes those sections (11,12 and 13) dealing with firearms.
(Circulated by authority of the Minister for Regional Services, Territories and Local Government, Senator the Honourable Ian Macdonald)
