A Bill for an Act to amend the Marriage Act 1961 to recognise same-sex marriages solemnised in a foreign country, and for related purposes
The Parliament of Australia enacts:
This Act may be cited as the Marriage Act Amendment (Recognition of Foreign Marriages for Same-Sex Couples) Act 2013 .
This Act commences on the day on which it receives the Royal Assent.
The object of this Act is to recognise same-sex marriages solemnised in a foreign country.
The Marriage Act 1961 is amended as set out in the applicable item in Schedule 1.
