Senator WALTERS (TASMANIA) - I preface my question to the Minister representing the Minister for Industrial Relations by pointing out that most people in Australia would appreciate the importance of the debate on the detrimental effects or otherwise on Australian industries, and their overseas competitive position, of the 35-hour working week. I have attempted to find out the position to date regarding the number of unions whose members already work a 35-hour week and have been assured by the Parliamentary Library that the figures are not available. Will the Minister assure the Senate that the Department will make available this very necessary data?

Senator CARRICK -I will refer Senator Walters' question to my colleague the Minister for Industrial Relations, and seek the information she requests.
