Senator Walsh asked the Minister representing the Minister for Primary Industry, upon notice, on 19 March 1980:

(1)   What is the expected completion date of the Australian Fisheries Council study of the mercury content in fish.

(2)   Will the report be tabled in Parliament.


Senator Scott - The Minister for Primary Industry has provided the following answer to the honourable senator's questions:

(   1 ) The report of the Working Group on Mercury in Fish has been completed and was tabled and accepted at the 9th Meeting of the Australian Fisheries Council on I November 1979. The Minister for Primary Industry has forwarded the report to the Minister for Health for consideration by the National Health and Medical Research Council.

(2)   The resolutions of the 9th Meeting of the Australian Fisheries Council will be tabled during this session of Parliament and the recommendations of the Working Group are contained in these resolutions.
