Senator MELZER (VICTORIA) - My question is directed to the Minister representing the Minister for Defence. Workers in the Government Printing Office in Melbourne believe that they are printing call-up papers for young Australian men and women. Is the Federal Government having any papers printed that could be used for this purpose?

Senator DURACK -I think that several weeks ago Senator Lewis asked me whether the Government was contemplating national service or conscription. I indicated very clearly, and I re-affirm, that the Government has no plans for any national service, conscription or call-up in the sense in which Senator Melzer now asks her question. I have no knowledge of what papers are being handled by the Government Printing Office in Melbourne. There may be a perfectly obvious explanation for the papers referred to. I will refer the matter to the Minister for Defence.
