Senator MULVIHILL (NEW SOUTH WALES) - I direct a question to the Leader of the Government in the Senate. Can the abnormally protracted negotiations between the Commonwealth and New South Wales Governments on the release of land on the foreshores of Sydney Harbour for park purposes' be attributed to either the failure of the New South Wales Premier to reply promptly to a request from the former Prime Minister or the high selling price of the land that has been determined by the Commonwealth, which is in contrast with the practice followed by the Government of the United States of America in its relations with the various States in that country?

Senator Sir KENNETH ANDERSON

I would need to make some inquiries to obtain the background information that the honourable senator seeks. I have some reservations about his inference that the question of the value of the land could be a factor. I do not know whether it is a factor, but I should have thought that that would not have been the issue involved. I will obtain the information for the honourable senator if I can and make it available to him.
