Senator Douglas McClelland (NEW SOUTH WALES) asked the Minister in Charge of Tourist

Activities, upon notice:

(1)   Was the Minister correctly reported in The Australian' of 14th October 1970 as saying that high air fares were a major problem in attracting tourists to Australia, particularly from America, and that some way will have to be found to reduce the costs?

(2)   What action is being taken to persuade the international airline operators to reduce fares between America and Australia?
