Senator POYSER - My question is addressed to the Lender of the Government in the Senate. Has the Commonwealth Government any control over the merger of large companies, including banks and other commercial institutions as well as mining companies? Can it veto decisions by industrial unions to merge in the common interest of their members? If so, under what legislation does this right of veto exist?

Senator Sir KENNETH ANDERSON - Because of the field covered by the honourable senator's question I think I should ask him to put it on the notice paper in order to get a precise answer. I have the feeling that there are some pro visions in the banking law relating to banks and I have a feeling that there is some provision in the Conciliation and Arbitration Act relating to industrial unions. The question is a fair and interesting one but 1 think it should be put on notice and receive a considered reply.
