Senator SCOTT - The Minister for Shipping and Transport has provided the following answer to the honourable senator's question:

(1)   and (2) 1 am advised that the Australia to Europe Shipping Conference is currently discussing with the Australia to Europe Shippers' Association the basis for providing future feeder services and centralising cargoes. At the present time proposals for both Portland and Albany are being considered and it is expected that proposals for Tasmania and North Queensland will shortly be examined by these bodies.

I understand that the Conference hopes that the discussions now started can be completed satisfactorily not only to enable the inclusion of Portland and Albany in the Conference's arrangements within the next few months but also the extension of feeder services where necessary by sea to North Queensland and Tasmanian ports during the first half of 1970.
