Senator CAVANAGH asked the Minister representing the Minister for Trade and Industry, upon notice:

1.   While acting as Prime Minister, did the Minister for Trade and Industry order an investigation by the Commonwealth Police of Mr J. F. O'Brien, a clerk in the Department of Trade and Industry?

2.   In September 1968, did the Commonwealth police search the office occupied by Mr J. F. O'Brien.

3.   Did the report of the police investigation, as submitted to the Minister, disclose the discovery in Mr O'Brien's desk of a copy of a by-law approval issued by Mr Hoffmann, an officer of the Department of Customs and Excise, for the importation of turtle skins?
