Senator BARNES - The answers to the honorable senator's questions are as follow : -

1.   The approximate amount paid in exchange in order to make payment to Australian pensioners residing outside Australia through Australia House, London, during the year ended 30th April, 1931, was £40,500. Most of these payments are to war pensioners.

2.   Consideration is being given to charging to such pensioners some portion of the cost of exchange involved in these payments.

3.   This would be the cost for a full year at the current rate of exchange if payments were continued without any adjustment in respect of exchange.
