Senator E: B JOHNSTON (WESTERN AUSTRALIA) asked the Minister representing the Treasurer, upon notice -

1.   Has the attention of the Government been drawn to a statement made by the ValuerGeneral of Kew South Wales (in the Sydney Morning Herald of the 22nd April), that the aim of his department was to exercise fair moderation in valuations of land in view of the present difficult period?

2.   Does the said statement further forecast a reduction of about 10 per cent, in assessments next year, as compared with those now current, with exceptions where it was stated to be probable that the reductions would exceed 10 per cent.?

3.   What action is being taken by the Taxation Department to reduce assessments in agricultural, pastoral and other land in Australia, and particularly in Western Australia, to conform with its present depreciated market value?
