Senator BARNES - The answers to the honorable senator's questions are as follow : - 1 and 2. The Government is aware of the serious position of the wheat-growers of Australia, owing to the fall in world prices of wheat, and owing to the absence of that pro tection which the Wheat Marketing Bill would have afforded them.

3.   The Government proposes to pay direct to the wheat-growers a bounty which will amount in all to £3,500,000 sterling, and in addition to make loan moneys amounting to £2,500,000 available to the States for the assistance of necessitous wheat-growers. Legislation to give effect to these proposals has already been introduced in another place.
