Senator Sir GEORGE PEARCE asked the Minister representing the Minister for Defence, upon notice -

1.   Is ita fact that certain officers of the Permanent Military Forces have received notice that their services are to be dispensed with?

2.   If so, how many such officers have been so notified?

3.   Did not the Minister, when suspending the system of compulsory military training, statu publicly that there would not be any dismissals in consequence of this action?

4.   Is any compensation to be paid to such officers on retirement; and, if so, on what basis?
