Senator DALY (South AustraliaVicePresident of the Executive Council) . - I move -

That the bill be now road a second time.

This bill may be described as a hardy annual. It proposes to appropriate a further sum of £100,000 to complete the railway from Grafton to South Brisbane. The completed cost is now estimated at £4,450,000. Honorable members will remember that the last bill in connexion with this railway was submitted towards the close of 1929 when an appropriation of £350,000 was made, bringing the total appropriation to that date up to £4,350,000. Should honorable senators desire any further information regarding this work, I shall be pleased to give it.

Senator McLachlan - The explanation will be the same as it has been on various occasions during the last four years.

Senator DALY - And the same note of optimism that this appropriation will be sufficient to complete the work.

Question resolved in the affirmative.
